This is my current strawberry patch. In the back far right, I have not cleared my path yet. When I planted the strawberries, they were planted three feet apart with a path between each row. This is year two and you can't see the path where I haven't cleared it.

So I decided to make use of those shoots and start a new row. The shoots were NOT planted three feet apart. The new row is about three feet wide and there are four rows of shoots. In most cases I clipped the shoots with at least two plants per shoot.

In the very back right, on the first three rows, I just used my little garden spade to open a hole big enough for the roots. There I expanded the each row a few more feet. But I had a whole lot more shoots so I started new rows.

Where I started and just opened little holes, the strawberries stayed looking lush. But on the new row, I used the big spade and flipped the ground about nine inches deep. By the next morning the those strawberries were looking wilted. So I hosed them down in the AM, PM and again the next AM. Now all but the largest ones look good ... except the shoots that were hiding with other shoots and didn't have their roots in the ground.

Almost in the bottom right of the picture is my new mole trap. Set it once and it sat for a couple of days. Then I was working in the strawberries so I tripped it. Brought it in the garage for the night and the mole created a new tunnel right where the trap was/is. So I re-set it and no action.

A recently dug out one of my pepper plants from under the tomato plant and now the pepper plant has a couple of baby peppers on it. So I decided to chop down the tomato plant. It is the plant that produces huge (rotten) tomatoes. So far we have only found one that was not rotten and that one tasted bad.

So tonight I chopped it down. Took two wheel barrel loads to haul it away. I did save the green tomatoes, we'll see if they get ripe and are any good.

Just about every time I go out to the garden the squirrels run out of my corn. Still haven't gotten close enough to get a good picture. Not like my rabbits that don't want to run until I almost touch them.

Forecast changed so it may get down to 37 on Wednesday night here. Other than that it should stay above 40 for the next 10 days.

Peppers, tomatoes, squash and watermelon still growing. Carrots and beats may be too.

I had thought I was going to try to make V-8 or tomato juice again this year. But with all the tomatoes that rotted there hasn't been enough good ones to try it. I'll check again tomorrow.
