First Fruit

These are on the strawberries I planted this year. The strawberries from last year are still blooming ... and putting out shoots. If I remember I will be planning on clipping the shoots until the berries are picked.


I did spend a few hours weeding the berries today. Another hour or two and I should be able to put the rest of the straw down. The area where I tilled down sod this year is almost solid weeds, very few weeds in last years berries so they shouldn't take long.


Two more milkweed have come up. They are in the fire pit where I planted but they don't seem to be in the area I planted so I'll guessing they are coming from shoots. Now hope the butterflies find them.


Other than that it is wait ... and weed and pick rocks. Where I weeded over a week ago is turning green again.


Now that the garden is all rototilled, I'm spreading the compost I bring from my Mom's right into the rows. It is basically fluffy dirt so shouldn't be an issue. It will get worked in when I weed.
