Garden planning
Garden planning

Took a picture when I was still planning on where to plant things. Doing it on paper just doesn't seem to work for me. The fence is not up here. The posts in the center are to hold up my pea and bean racks. The poles on the right are for my black berries.

Black berries. I may give them another year or two. I see I have been trying for almost 15 years to grow them and have never had enough berries for a bowl.

I'm trying to do better at spacing things. My rows are 2 foot, but spreading plants don't do well in 2 foot rows. So my peas and beans are now split between two rows so that should be about 3 foot. And I given the tomato and squash over a 3 foot area in all directions.

The transplanting was done in the AM with a forecast of rain for later in the day. When I did start watering a couple of days ago I thought that I would have to water twice a day until it rained. But the ground stayed wet so I chanced it and did not water this AM.

The storm did come through and we got 4/10's.

Later in the day we stopped at Gerten's and got strawberries and some seeds. I have been buying all my strawberries from Gerten's. usually two trays per year. This year they are really lush and already have lots of shutters going out. I had to break some of them off just to pull the trays off the shelf at the store.

For seeds we ended up with peas, beans, beats and carrots. My wife didn't realize it when she looked at the carrot package but the seeds were on tape. So this is our first year for that.

I did get some of each planted and the fence put in place to keep animals from walking in. But I still need to drive a lot of posts down and most likely buy a couple more sections of fence.

I'd rather not have fence but too much wildlife for that.

My neighbor that put up his 6 foot plastic fence near my garden has now added a three foot metal fence so the bunnies don't chew through it.
