We were had work lined up for most of this weekend but our Friday truck broke down so we spent the three day weekend at home. Friday we spent most of the time watching the load board but did get started on some garden and yard items.

The forecast is finally for temps to stay above 50 degrees, but on one recent morning there was still frost on the neighbors roof.

Besides picking up the fences that were around my berries I also got the last of the leaves moved into the compost pile. Any of the leaves that do get raked in the fall get piled on the east garden and then get moved to the compost pile after the prior compost gets spread.

Luckily I did a good job of raking before I started rototilling. I had forgotten that I and planted something last fall. I saw things coming up in rows but didn't remember what it was right away. It was three rows of garlic.

I didn't make any notes on my garden maps so I will need to look and see what I planted where last fall. I planted some more milkweed and wild flowers around the compost bin.

I also got the wild flowers clipped off and put in the compost. And I got the garlic chives clipped this year before the new ones were a foot tall.

My fence there looks in poor repair. I have had a waist high fence since I started gardening that I move to where I want it that year. Last year it was there, around the strawberries, and then last fall I put a plastic fence on top of it to keep the deer out. Last year the chewed most of my strawberries but didn't seem to bother them this year.

It may be because I put pine tree clipping over the strawberries. Now this spring I am working on clipping them down so they are not a covering but a mulch to keep the berries off the sand.

Last winter I fenced the blueberries and the black berries so they did not get damaged. But my raspberries were outside the fence and all but one clump was pretty well chewed off. So more fences for next year.

... and this last year for the first time, I noticed that my neighbor was feeding the deer ... so they know where they can come year around for food. :(

I haven't found any bunny damage this year but another neighbor who also gardens said the bunnies did major damage to both his blueberries and some of his new plantings of pine trees.
