You will have to look close to see the milkweed stalks. There used to be close to two dozen of them growing within this frame. They self seeded around our former firepit a few years ago and have come back every year.

I have no idea what might have killed them, all of them in this area. The other are doing fine, some of them.

It doesn't look like any of my milkweed fared good enough to go to seed this year. I had planted two six foot by six foot areas of milkweed seed that I had gathered from along the road. Only one came up.

A few came up in my strawberry patch and grew OK, but in the last week or so something has been chewing off their leaves, but not enough to kill them.

There also had been about a half dozen that started growing in my sweet corn. I fenced them off with a small garden fence so they would not get stepped on but now they are gone. Those never got over a foot tall.

I will try again. I still have milkweed seed from last year and also picked up some from the county fair. My plan is to leave the area where the milkweed are still growing and no longer try to raise strawberries there.
