Picture: Tilted plants.

It was supposed to rain early afternoon. 100% chance of about 1.5 inches of rain. After the time had passed and the clouds had moved off the radar, we finally got enough to cover the ground.

Today was a watering day but I still waited. Finally after 4 PM I finally started the sprinkler as the corn was really curling and it was going to need a lot of water just to stay alive.

I water the first section, then move it to the second section and go into eat. As I am eating the rain comes out of no where. And it is coming down in sheets. I look at my east yard and there is a little island where I thought the ground was flat. Finally after a half hour or the rain isn't coming in sheets so I put on a jacket and get the water shut off.

I usually water about .2 a time. And I hadn't emptied the rain gauge so I'm guessing we got about an inch and a half in about an hour today. Now the ground is wet.

And the rain that was blowing across the yard in sheets also did a number on my corn and sunflowers. Couldn't get a picture to show how bad it really looked. It made the rows a little narrower and a little harder to weed now.

PLANTING - Pretty much since I have had a garden, I have been using a small garden spade to open a hole to drop in the corn seed. Two weeks ago I started using the blunt end of the handle to create a hole and then drop the send in that. What I have found is a lot of holes in the ground. Often when I create a hole I need to fill it a couple of times so that the hole I am dropping seed into is only two inches deep.

In the past I'm guessing I was pretty much dropping seeds into the rodent's underground runways.

Today, on the 3rd, I did plant two types of beans where the first planting of something else did not grow. I did that after the rain.

I did plant some more corn on 7/2. That corn will not be ready until after mid-Sept so not great hopes for it. I still have room for two more plantings of 65 day corn but waiting so it will be ready between the other plantings I have already done.
