2022 06 18 - Strawberries

Picture: Berries picked, the good and the bad.

I was glad to see we were going to be home when the berries should be ready.

When I did get out to pick them I was able to get one large bowl from the two newest rows. I haven't had a chance to pick the other two rows yet so they likely will be past there prime.

Of the berries in the bowl, about half of them were bad. And the rest were edible but not 'wow.' Pretty disappointing after all the work I put into it. The berries might be better over ice cream or with other food but not great alone.

Also when I ate some with cream and sugar the sugar turned brown in the bottom of the bowl ... or it got mixed with sand?

The berry area had filled in with leaves this winter so I did not use straw under them. But leaves shrink down and now are gone. That shouldn't change the taste but is the reason for the sand.
