2021 07 24 - Corn

First thing this AM I notice that some of my corn has been cut off right at the ground, that looks like worms because of how it was cut. The deer had chewed the tops off but that would have been from earlier.

Spent the AM weeding for a couple of hours before it got too hot.

Then when I was mowing later in the day, I saw this ...

Sometime this afternoon it looks like wind took down a bunch of my corn. By this afternoon a pepper plant was also laying down. I had weeded part of this area this AM so I know it was not down then.

I did clip off two yellow squash and one zucchini. That is all off of five plants for the week after watering.

Then I finally went around and picked up the piles of weeds where I made them. It doesn't take long for them to start to deteriorate. With one pile I had put some bigger weeds on the bottom, by the time I picked up the pile, all that was left was the base stalk of the weed.

And my compost pile is sinking faster than I am adding to it. Today I decided it was a good time to pull the weeds in the compost that are sucking all the nutrients of the pile. I pulled them out of once section and started on the next when I got bit. I hit at my hand and thought I killed whatever, but then I got buzzed again.

I had disturbed the bees. There had been a ground nest a few feet from there in my flowers last year. But when I found it, it was cool so the bees were not flying and I was able to move it. I had moved the next part NEXT to the compost pile. But they must have moved it into the compost pile.

The bees kept buzzing me so I kept swatting with my cap around my head. By the time I got to the house they had left me along. Not sure what I would have done if they were still buzzing me, I wasn't going to run into the house.

There are a few small tomatoes getting ready but the others don't seem to want to turn. Peppers are producing, that is about it.

By now I should have two plantings of corn ready to pick. So far, -0-. So it should be soon ???
