2021 07 05 - Winding down on the planting.

We were gone when I wanted to plant my last planting of corn so I ended up planting two more plantings instead of one. And instead of the 89 day, I planted some of the 65 day and an area of the 78 day.

So now we have corn that SHOULD be ready Sep 20. That is pushing it, but if the weather stays good, why not.

I have replanted sun flowers, beans and carrots. And plan on replanting peas in Aug when it starts to get cooler.

I still have ?? 10 hours worth of weeding left to do. I did work on weeding again today but it was in the 90's so I stayed in a little more than usual. It doesn't take long to feel the heat when it is 90+ and in the direct sun.

BB came out and picked one bowl of blueberries. We had bought cream but we were mostly out of sugar. But they were still good.

My one blueberry plant that looked like it wasn't going to make it because of the heat, I now see little new sprouts shooting out. It just might make it.

I do have a bunch of unknowns, like weeds, but I think these may be egg plant from the ones I didn't pick last year. 20-30 plants in a bunch near where that plant was last year. If I let them grow, I still need to thin it down to one plant per area.

I still need to do a lot of weeding before I can plant more flowers.

Saw my first monarch butterfly tonight when I was weeding. It flew past the milkweed a few times before finally landing. It seemed as if the bees were bumping it's wings causing it to fly away before coming back to land. Today had been the first day that I hadn't seen ants on the milkweed. Not sure where the ants went or how long they will be gone.

I do want to plant some more flowers in that area. And maybe clover?

I did water again this AM. The peppers really seam to be stunted. BB did also pick some of the squash and peppers and fried them up. But one 'fruit' and no more flowers? And the plants are only about knee high so far.

Corn is doing better, some of it is tasseling and the first due date is Jul 10th ... while we will be on vacation.
