Milkweed in the garden
Milkweed in the garden

Maybe my milkweed is a sign of things to come.

A couple of years ago I was down to less than 12 plants. Then I tried planting some milkweed. Zero came up where I planted, but a few did come up across the yard where I assume they had blown to when I tried to plant them.

So far this year I have counted over 60 plants including a few in a 3rd area. Now to just keep the ants off of them.

I have also tried planting other flowers in the area but so far no luck. I'm guessing I need to plant the flowers in-doors so I know what they look like before planting them outdoors. Once they are outdoors the weeds grow fast than the flowers and I haven't seen any of them bloom yet.

Except the morning glories. But I still need to plant those every year but other places in my garden they are still coming up after pulling them was weeds for the last 10 years.

If I get to it this year, I plan on putting up a double fence for the flowers to climb on. I think with just a single fence the deer are able to eat them off as they grow.

The deer also eat some of the milkweed. Only seen one so far this year bitten off.

There are still a few milkweed in the old fire pit where this all started. Now this year there are also a few next to the blueberries by the house.
